The artwork "White Noise" by Giny Vos shines again along the A10 highway in Amsterdam. The light artwork was first switched on 11 years ago, but the lights went out in 2018. The abstract starry sky has now been restored, with technology from RENA.
A true Harsh and Hazardous application
We developed a new LED module as a replacement for the originally used LED modules. At the height of the tower (around 100-110 meters) there’s always wind, many times stronger than "below". Combine that with rain, sunlight, air pollution and you can imagine that a standard available LED module can’t withstand these conditions for long at that location. It is truly a "Harsh and Hazardous" application. That is why RENA developed a LED module with a robust housing. Wind and waterproof, protected against pollution, UV resistant and can be mounted storm-proof. Equipped with modern LEDs, the modules, and thus the entire artwork, will last for many years to come.
The operating system is virtually unchanged, only the PC on which the program runs has been replaced by a new one with a solid state hard drive so that it can also last for a long time. A maintenance contract ensures that the artwork is also kept in good condition for years to come.
Carefully tested
The new LED module has been carefully developed and tested before it was produced. The extreme weather conditions on the tower sometimes made installation impossible, and therefore some time was lost. The Covid-19 pandemic and a defect in the elevator in the tower, making the platforms on which the LEDs are mounted inaccessible, have caused further delays. But now "White Noise" is shining again in the night!
