From September 1st, all light sources sold in the EU must meet the new requirements for the well-known CE mark. These so-called Ecodesign regulations are mandatory for almost all light sources sold in the EU. RENA will work with you to ensure that your product is ready for these new regulations.
Single Lighting Regulation (SLR)
The Single Lighting Regulation sets requirements for energy efficiency and other factors such as lifespan and product information. Fortunately, almost all lighting produced by RENA already meetthese requirements. What changes are the rules for documenting these requirements. For many of our products, this means that the design, marking and/or documentation will be slightly adjusted. RENA has the knowledge to arrange this for your light source.
Next to that, the energy label has been adjusted. It has been given a new range. The European Union also requires your product to comply with this Energy Labelling Regulation (ELR).
Exceptions
Some light sources are (partly) exempt from the new regulations. This applies to certain horticulture light sources, ATEX certified lighting, certain light artworks, signalling and more. The experts at RENA can provide support for both existing as well as new designs and determine whether your design is either exempt for both SLR as well as ELR, or exempt for SLR only.
European Product Database for Energy Labelling (EPREL)
It will become mandatory to upload the data of light sources in a dedicated database of the EU: the European Product Database for Energy Labelling (EPREL). The suppliers of the light sources can start uploading by May 1st 2021.
It is important that your production partner collects all information from different LED suppliers. This way, the required data can be entered correctly. This includes data such as R9, light purity, candela per mm2 (luminance), etc. Fortunately, you do not have to do all this yourself. When you work with RENA, we ensure that a complete document is produced with all the necessary data for the EPREL database.
As manufacturer, you are expected to upload the data into the EPREL database. Of course we can also take this off your hands. Feel free to get in touch if you are interested in this service.
Transition period from May 1st
A transition period applies to these regulations from 1 May to 1 September. Should your product be subject to changes due to the new regulations, RENA can ensure that the documentation, labelling and -if necessary- , the design will be adjusted in consultation with you.
